Housewifey Goals

I don’t REALLY want to be a perfect housewife. But there are a few lots of things that I can work on to make this household run more smoothly.

Things like:

  • menu planning – It seems everyone and anyone is participating in Org Junkie’s Menu Plan Monday so maybe that’s what I need to help me.
  • bulk cooking – we have a big freezer there that we don’t make proper use of. And I want to be organised enough to bake the kids’ school snacks so we don’t need to buy them.
  • wake up earlier so I can get a head start before the rest of the family get up.
  • stick to a budget – one of my major goals for 2011.
  • organise – need to majorly decrapify (saw that word on some blog somewhere and loved it!), and have a place for everything.
  • start a vegie garden – so we can not only eat our own vegies but also reducing the money we spend on fresh produce.

I’m sure I’ll think of more later but I think this list will keep me busy.

How about you? What could you do better to make your household run more smoothly?

  1. The bulk cooking this is something my mother has been suggesting to me for about 3 years now... has never happened. It's on the to-do list though. Along with things like Organise My Paperwork and Spring Clean the Garage!

  2. The dreaded to-do list will be the death of me!

  3. My goal list is very similar.
I started menu planning a few weeks back and it's working a treat! I now only shop once a week (before it was all over the place and I always forgot things!) and we're eating take-away a LOT less.
I'm not a fan of the bulk cooking - for some reason I just can't do the frozen leftovers thing - I'm a freezer snob I think!
And I've just had 3 vegie plots put in! My sister in law bought me a book called One Magic Square (http://tinyurl.com/265sehv). Haven't started reading yet but looking forward to it!

    Good luck with your goals!

  4. Thanks for the link, Fi. I'll need as much help as I can with the vegie garden. Not a green thumb!

As for bulk cooking, don't know how I'll go with it. It's not so much frozen leftovers but but full meals such as bolognaise sauce, that could be heated when needed and just a matter of boiling up some pasta. Would make life a little easier I think. Maybe.

  5. I'm big on bulk cooking and it saves a heap of time! I freeze things such as sauces, soups, schnitzel, fish fingers, shepherds pie etc and then just steam fresh veggies to go with it. I live in an apartment so don't have a vegie patch but have a few potted herbs bought from the supermarket that just keep dropping off :( guess I'm not such a green thumb...

My major goals are to buy more things in bulk, cook with more variety and learn how to fix things rather than replace.

  6. Decrapify, that's awesome. :) are you going to throw things out or donate or garage sale? Or just shove in a cupboard somewhere?
